The cloud cover broke up just about the time the eclipse started. We've had nothing but blue sky (a little bit of haze) for the last 90 min. The eclipse was brief but memorable. It's getting dark but it isn't due to clouds! There are no clouds to speak of anymore except much further to the west. I go out onto the balcony every 10 minutes or so and the sun is just a crescent now. Only about 20 minutes more to the full eclipse. It's coming! I can see the sun sometimes through the clouds and to the west there is nothing but blue sky! There's actually sunshine! Holy shit! It's going to happen. Well, it's a little less than half an hour before the eclipse begins in my neck of the woods and a little over an hour before the total eclipse and it is already darker than hell and storming like a mofo. Not only do I not enjoy hot weather but as I get older it effects me quite adversely. We are currently in the middle day of a 3 day intensely hot spell - hovering around a 100 with oppressive humidity. I had vaguely heard about the eclipse but hadn't paid much attention because no eclipse has really been visible from where I live. But I guess not this time. Independence, MO is on the outer edge of the 70 mile wide corridor of the total eclipse but we're in it!
